These effects mimic the changes in color that occur on surfaces exposed to the elements like sun, wind, dust, rain, and snow. The resulting effect includes a fading, dulling, and loss of color intensity.

Model painters often struggle to accurately reproduce these natural weathering effects. Washes offer a simple solution to this challenge. They can be mixed together to create different shades and can be applied using either an airbrush or a brush, depending on the desired effect and the specific model being worked on.

The average drying time for Model Wash is approximately 20 minutes, but if multiple layers of wash are being applied, it is recommended to wait around 40 minutes between applications. Cleanup is easy as painting tools can be cleaned with water.
